Women suffer differently, men too

Women suffer differently, men too

Directed by Monika Kirschner | 2013 | ZDF | arte

How neutral should medicine be, how sensitive to the differences between men and women? How important are these differences for health and illness? Do we underestimate or overestimate them? The results of gender medicine are excitingly new and different. The different risk factors of men and women surprise even the experts. The film „Women suffer differently, men too“ tells the stories of patients who suffered from diagnoses and therapies that did not take gender differences into account; often with dramatic repercussions. A film about the clinical practice, research and science in Europe, the first address being in Berlin at the institute for gender research in medicine a the Charité. Gender medicine is becoming the basis for a new interdisciplinary medicine, which focuses on the social individual rather than pursuing a further standardization of medicine.
