UNESCO World Cultural Heritage – Treasures for Eternity:

Arles

A film by Marion Schmidt | ARTE | SR | 2022

A four-part series celebrating UNESCO’s 50th anniversary.

Arles in southern France is currently reinventing itself. Until now, the picturesque town on the edge of the Camargue was known primarily for its ancient landmarks, such as the famous amphitheater, which are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city has now gained a new landmark: a tower by American-Canadian architect Frank O. Gehry, which can be seen from afar. On a former industrial wasteland, a cultural campus has been created around the Gehry Tower, which defines itself as a “workshop for the future” and a point of attraction for the most relevant artists of the 21st century.
