Pawlowsk – The landscape garden by St. Petersburg

Directed by Inga Wolfram | 2013 | arte

26 kilometers from St. Petersburg we find Pawlowsk – a castle, a park, a garden – a place of imagination and remembrance of Russian-german royalty. Built in the end of th 18th century as a sommer palace for duke Pawel and his German wife Sophie Dorothee von Württemberg, who, as a Russian duchess, had adopted the name Mria Fjodorowna.

The Russian novelist Wladimir Kaminer who lives in Berlin, guides us through the park and the castle, meets the garden architect, the historian, musicians, dacners and park visitors. In sommer as in winter, Pawlowsj presents itself as a masterpiece of harmony between man and nature.
