Tourism on Rügen and Usedom, the two most popular Baltic Islands, has shut down completely due to Corona. The shutdown hits the island inhabitants especially hard since almost everyone here works directly or indirectly in tourism. Everyone is hoping for a swift end to the lockdown and expects the return of large numbers of tourists.

How do the Baltic Islands prepare for the beginning of the season? What are the ramifications of the corona crisis for the residents of the islands?

The lockdown strategy, implemented in order to avoid infections, is threatening the livelihood of most residents, as 80% of them make their living working in tourism.
