Fairtrade - on the road with Hannes Jaenicke

Independent tea farmer Sumithra harvests tea from her very own tea trees. With the aid of her farming cooperative, she turned a barren piece of land into a fecund tea garden. While most tea from Sri Lanka is still being cultivated conventionally by use of pesticides and artificial fertilizer, Sumithra does not make use of chemicals for her organic tea product. In order to improve soil quality, she planted banana plants, coconut, lemon grass and pepper between the tea plants.
