Takht Bika, 23, lives in Shimshal, a small village in the North of Pakistan, 3100 meters above sea level. Climbing belts, spurs and ice picks are the tools Takht Bika will need regularly for her work. Together with other women from her village, the young Pakistani woman attends the Shimshal Mountaineering School. These young Muslim women have been turning Pakistan’s traditional gender roles upside down for 4 years now, because they want to work in a profession, that has previously been a man’s domain. Daughters of Karakorum tells the story of strong women.
