The painter Otto Dix

The painter Otto Dix

Directed by Inga Wolfram | 2014 | MDR

The painter and graphic artist Otto Dix, born in 1891 in Gera, became one of the extraordinary representatives of the New Objectivity. Until 1933 he taught at the art academy of Dresden and was a member of the Prussian academy of the arts. His works were defamed as “degenerate” by the Nazis, and were removed from German museums.

By showing his paintings about the First World War we want to tell the biography of a painter that has been shaped by the catastrophes of the first half of the 20th century.
