Teaching in Vietnam – Ms. Phan and the Children of the Mountains

The remote mountain region of Ha Giang in northern Vietnam was for many years cut off from the modern world. The Hmong people here still follow the old traditions of their ancestors, which means life is often very hard for the mountain farmers. Thom is a teacher who volunteered to work in a small village school. She wants to teach the Hmong children reading, writing, and maths so they can have a chance to escape poverty.
But things become even more difficult when, right at the start of the school year, the strongest typhoon in decades hits the region.
